 - Paul Conrad continues to meet and conduct interviews with Council members and community leaders to complete his assessment.

 - The task is on schedule with a presentation to Council expected in April or May 2008.

October 2007

-  Paul Conrad and Associates will be developing an approach that will ensure that the final business plan will provide Council with the proper documentation in order to make an informed decision regarding future development in Community Facilities.  Methods are to include a telephone survey, stakeholder and group consultations, trends and opportunities review, public engagement and solid research regarding financing and operations of any proposed facility.

September 2007

 - Jurgen Kautz has been contracted to work on the renovations at the school.  Delays caused some modifications of our summer programs and now continues to create difficulty for fall programming.

 - The drop in program will be cancelled until late September or early October when the building is organized for occupancy.

 - Mr. Paul Conrad of Paul Conrad & Associates met with the Director of Community Services to review the scope of the potential Community Services Building replacement project.  He noted that it is important to have the present building officially reviewed in order to establish the need for it to be replaced upon the municipal inventory.  This is the same process utilized for replacement of the Swimming Pool and in fact was a major factor in our success in obtaining provincial funding.

Community Services Prepares to Relocate in Historic Section of Hanna Primary School

New location.Town of Hanna Community Services department has been busy working on relocating operations from the Community Services Building located at 114 - 4th Avenue to the 1918 section of the Hanna Primary School.  The move was made possible when the Prairie Land School Division and the Town of Hanna reached a two year rental agreement for use of the building space.

Council directed the Community Services Board in the fall of 2006 to look at alternative locations or solutions for the public building when it became apparent that the building was no longer suitable for public use.  Leasing space from the school division allows time to plan for the proposed replacement of the Community Services Building.  The lease includes use of two main classroom areas on the main floor, gymnasium use in the summer months and a classroom on the second level for use as a community music room.

Modifications to the main floor of the Primary School were gun in late June.  Two classrooms will be renovated into one larger room, allowing for more useable space for programs such as Summer Fun Day Camp and the Youth Drop In Programs.  This space will also work well for some of the groups who previously used the former Community Services Building such as Girl Guides and Scouts.  Members of the Hanna Youth Club have been working to obtain donations toward replacement of games equipment such as a new pool table, fooze ball tables and air hockey.

Old location to be demolished. The second level will feature the Community Music Room, located directly across the hallway from Hanna Dance studios.  This room will provide a dedicated music space for use by groups such as the Hanna Community Band, local choir and vocal groups and other interested musicians.  The kitchen area will remain as a joint use room between the schools for hot lunch and Community Services programs.

Modifications to the building have been delayed due to lack of trade persons to complete the work.  Although Summer Fun Day Camp did operate from the new location, the majority of organizations and programs cannot complete their relocation until renovations are completed. It is expected that renovations will be completed in early September.  Plans are underway to host a Community Open House in October.  Anyone with any questions is encouraged to contact Gwen Snell, Director of Community Services at 854-4433 for further information.
