Twice a year, Town of Hanna offers to pick up compost. Spring pick up is typically done right after the May long weekend and fall pick up is done in late September or early October. This year, 2020, fall pick up is scheduled to begin Tue Oct 13.
People are encouraged to take their own yard waste and heavy items to the waste transfer site but for those who are unable, the Town conducts these pickups to assist.
- Items must be in 4′ (foot) sections, bundled or in certified compostable bags or clear plastic bags to be picked up.
- Loose branches, leaves, and piled neatly beside the garbage cans will be picked up.
When buying compostable bags, look for the certified compostable logo on the box. The bags will be tinted (green or brown) and will have the certified compostable logo printed directly on the bag.
Below are some examples of certified compostable bags carried by retailers in Hanna. This is not a complete list – contact your preferred location to confirm availability.
NOTE: Bags labelled as biodegradable and oxo-degradable are also made from plastic and do not belong in the compost.
