
Position Title: Bylaw Officer
Department: Community Services
Reports To: Chief Administrative Officer (CAO)

Position Summary
The Town of Hanna is seeking a full-time Bylaw Officer to enforce municipal bylaws related to property standards, animal control, and community regulations. This role involves conducting inspections, responding to complaints, educating the public, and taking enforcement actions when necessary to maintain a safe and orderly community.
Key Responsibilities
- Enforce Town bylaws related to property maintenance, animal control, and nuisance complaints.
- Respond to public inquiries and investigate complaints in a timely and professional manner.
- Issue warnings, violation tickets, and orders as required.
- Maintain detailed records and prepare reports.
- Promote education and voluntary compliance with municipal regulations.
- Liaise with other municipal departments and agencies as needed.
Qualifications
High school diploma (or equivalent) required.
Relevant training or certification (e.g., Alberta Community Peace Officer, bylaw enforcement courses) is considered an asset.
Experience in law enforcement, bylaw enforcement, or regulatory work is preferred.
Strong communication, conflict resolution, and report-writing skills.
Valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license.
Able to obtain a criminal record check and/or RCMP clearance.
Working Conditions
- Indoor and outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
- Interaction with the public, sometimes in challenging situations.
