Even though Spring is settling in, one thing hasn’t changed yet: the days are still short. Many people in town are eager to get back to walking, biking, and enjoying the outdoors, but doing so after sunset brings real safety concerns, it’s easy to forget how limited visibility becomes once daylight fades.
Residents have come forward to the Town to report close calls with pedestrians and cyclists who were difficult to see in low light.
Without reflective clothing or lights, people blend into the darkness far more than they realize. Wearing reflective gear, bright colours, or clip-on lights is one of the simplest and most effective ways to stay safe. Reflective materials catch headlights and streetlights, giving drivers the extra seconds they need to react. For cyclists, adding front and rear lights dramatically increases visibility from a distance.
Taking a few small precautions can make a big difference. Whether you’re heading out for an evening walk, a quick bike ride, or a jog after work, make sure you can be seen. Your safety and the peace of mind of your neighbours depends on it.
