Hello Hanna! You’ve probably seen the activity on Pioneer and Palliser Trails lately, and I know folks are curious about what’s happening. This project is a combination of road rehabilitation and bridge replacement — two big pieces of work that will improve safety and extend the life of our infrastructure.
The total project cost is slightly above $1M, but the good news is, Hanna ratepayers are not on the hook for all of it.

The Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Program (STIP) will cover a significant portion, and by tying this bridge work into our existing road rehabilitation program, we’re getting both projects completed more efficiently and cost-effectively.

Residents will see repairs and resurfacing along both Pioneer and Palliser Trails and the bridge on Pioneer Trail will be replaced. There will be times when sections of Pioneer and Palliser Trails are closed to traffic to allow a safe work environment. Closures won’t be constant, but they will happen, and detours will be in place. It is anticipated that both projects will be completed by the end of October.

I know construction season can be frustrating and I’m sure the workers appreciate your patience and ongoing safe driving practises.

Thank you for your trust as we work together to improve our community and prepare for the future!

Every four years, we vote in a Municipal Election—and 2025 is the year! Nominations are already open, and candidates are starting their campaigns. The Town website is your one-stop shop, with resources for anyone thinking about running and a list of candidates who have already filed their papers. Be sure to bookmark the page—this is where the official election results will be posted first. https://hanna.ca/election.

If you’re considering running for Councillor or Mayor, know that this is a serious commitment. Council sets the direction for the Town, decides priorities, approves the budget, and oversees the Chief Administrative Officer, who manages all of the day-to-day operations. Councillors are expected to act in the best interest of the whole community, attend meetings, serve on committees and boards, and help shape local programs and services.

t’s a role that requires teamwork, integrity, and a willingness to learn. Do your research, understand how budgets work, and be ready to represent the Town in a fair and professional way.

Nomination forms are available at hanna.ca and through Elections Alberta. It takes time to fill everything out and collect signatures, so don’t wait—nominations close at noon on September 22, just three weeks away!

I’m pleased to share that we had another very successful pool season this year. Our community continues to show incredible support, with 467 swimmers registering for swimming lessons. We also wrapped up the season on a high note, with more than 110 people attending the end-of-year pool party.

Another very successful summer program was epic adventures. Four skilled employees efficiently provided fun filled days for 54 participants over the 8 weeks. Highlights of this program included visits from the Fire Department, Project Reach, and going to the Lodge to perform a play. Many trips to the pool for public swim and special events, as well as a few trips out to Prairie Oasis. Field trips to the Tyrrell Museum, Calaway Park, and the Calgary Zoo were all attended.
