Since 2005, Harvest Sky Animal Rescue (HSAR), formerly known as the Hanna SPCA, has provided a vital service to East-Central Alberta by rescuing and rehabilitating animals in need.
Now more than ever, HSAR is calling on the community to support its efforts. As a volunteer-driven organization, HSAR relies entirely on individuals from the region to care for its animals and keep operations running.
When the Hanna SPCA transitioned into HSAR in 2021, the organization expanded its service area, covering Drumheller, Stettler, Wainwright, and into parts of Saskatchewan. Today, HSAR handles approximately 122 animals per year, providing them with the care they need before finding them forever homes.
“We are small but mighty,” said Trevor Kerr, the chairperson of HSAR. “With no paid staff, we rely on the passion and dedication of our volunteers. We couldn’t do what we do without them.”
As the organization looks to the future, HSAR is urgently seeking volunteers to help with a range of tasks—from animal care and cleaning to administration and social media management.
