Volunteers are the heartbeat of Harvest Sky Animal Rescue (HSAR). Without them, the organization couldn’t continue to provide care for the hundreds of animals that come through its doors each year. But who are these dedicated individuals, and what drives them to help?
For Kari, it’s all about the animals.
“I have fostered dozens of cats and it’s one of the most rewarding experiences,” said Kari. “There’s nothing quite like watching a scared, injured animal transform into a happy, healthy pet.”
Another volunteer, Shelley, helps with social media and digital advertising. Shelley volunteers from her home in Calgary where she posts pet bios to bulletin boards and Kijiji. Many HSAR pets are successfully adopted outside the HSAR region because of it.
“Even if you don’t have a lot of time, you can still make a difference,” said Shelley. “I only spend about 20 minutes a few times a week, but it helps get the word out and finds homes for animals.”
HSAR is always looking for more people like Kari and Shelley to join the team. From fostering animals to administrative work, there’s a role for everyone. If you’re interested in learning more, visit the HSAR to find out how you can help.
