in Natural Gas Production Site Break and Enter
On the evening of Aug. 8, 2024, Hanna RCMP were called to a report of a suspicious truck near a natural gas production site on Highway 36 near Hanna. Upon arrival, two males were located inside the property grounds and found in possession of a cordless reciprocating saw. Wire cutting and other structural damage was found at the site.
The truck was seized and a search warrant was conducted, which resulted in the recovery of firearms, a drone, a stolen license plate, and numerous power and hand tools suitable for wire removal and wire stripping. Copper wire and documentation in the name of the two males was also located. One of the firearms was found to be loaded with ammunition.
44 year-old Mark William Parker, a resident of Maidstone, Sask., and 25 year-old Nathaniel David Alan Turner, a resident of Vermilion River County, have been jointly charged with the following:
- Break and enter
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Possession of break-in instruments
- Contravening the transport regulations of the Firearms Act.
The males were taken before a Justice of the Peace and temporarily remanded into custody. Following a second hearing on Aug. 12, Parker was released on court-imposed conditions with a next court appearance date of Sept. 25, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. at Alberta Court of Justice in Hanna. Turner remained remanded into custody pending his next court appearance.
