Twice a year, the National Public Alerting System issues test messages to participating provinces. The next test is scheduled for Wed Nov 20, 2024 at 1:55 pm. Hopefully, you have already taken one simple step to help you prepare for an unexpected event. The Town of Hanna will send a test notification the same day.
What To Expect
During the Alberta Emergency Alert at 1:55 pm on Wed Nov 20, an alert sound will go off with a message to the cell phone user confirming there is no need for concern. This test is conducted twice a year and will be broadcast over your cell phone, TV and/or radio. Usually, the Town of Hanna conducts a local test alert (to registered users) on the same day, again indicating that this is a test.
These tests are not just testing of the Alberta Emergency Alert System and the Town of Hanna Notification System. It is an opportunity for all of us to test our own readiness to respond.
When you receive the test alert, take a moment to reflect on how prepared you and your family members would be if that alert were real. Later that day, at home, ask your household where they were when the alerts went off and how they would have responded.
Having a conversation about preparedness is one step to becoming more prepared.
Register for Hanna Alerts
It’s never too late to register for Hanna Alerts, but waiting may make it too late to receive the test notification sent by the Town of Hanna on Nov 20. (deadline is Nov 17) The alert system is used to issue notifications in the event of an emergency or an event that may impact you. You will receive a time-sensitive text message on your mobile phone. Notifications include, but are not limited to:
- Public Safety Alerts such as water, fire, RCMP, or any event that is considered an immediate threat to the safety and well-being of some or all Hanna residents.
- Local events such as water supply issues where staff are unable to contact every affected household.
NOTE: This does NOT replace the Alberta Emergency Alert. Register today for the notification alerts by visiting Hanna Alert System on our website.
