The Hanna Municipal Library has created a new initiative to help seniors who feel lonely or isolated.
The idea is that you can write a note or a card to a senior with words of encouragement to brighten their day and then drop it off at the library. The program coordinator Erica will deliver these letters to residents at Long Term Care in Hanna.
Writing letters or sending a card to an isolated senior citizen can have a powerful impact, brightening their day and improving the feeling of loneliness. A heartfelt letter will remind them they are valued, and bring a smile through small but meaningful gestures. It doesn’t take a lot of time to share a story, describe a funny moment or simply offer words of encouragement such as, “You are thought of and appreciated today.” You have the ability to make a real difference in their emotional well-being.
Please do not address your card or letter to a specific person, as they will be given out to residents who need them the most on any particular day. If you don’t have time to write a card or letter, please feel free to email words of encouragement to erorabeck@hannalibrary.ca and Erica will write them out for you and deliver them.
Erica is looking forward to delivering your kind words and will be making her first delivery the first week of June.
