Bylaw Officer: Contract Opportunity

The Town of Hanna is seeking a dedicated and adaptable Bylaw Officer to work under contract. If you are motivated, experienced and understand municipal government in a team-focused environment, we’d like to hear from you.


Position Overview
The Hanna Bylaw Officer is responsible for enforcing local bylaws and regulations to ensure community safety and compliance with the Town of Hanna bylaws. This role involves conducting inspections, investigating complaints, issuing citations, and engaging with the public to address violations related to property standards, zoning, parking, noise, and other municipal policies. The officer will educate residents and businesses on bylaw requirements and work closely with local government departments and stakeholders. This position requires strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, as well as the ability to work independently in a dynamic environment.


Contract Details
Duration: 2 year term
Hours Per Week:
January–April (17 weeks): 14 hours/week
May-August (17 weeks): 28 hours/week
September–December (18 weeks): 14 hours/week
Rate of Pay: $36.00/hour

Responsibilities
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Bylaw Officer will:

  • Enforce Town bylaws with professionalism and fairness.
  • Respond to complaints and investigate potential violations.
  • Educate the public on bylaws to encourage compliance.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records of incidents and enforcement activities.
  • Work collaboratively with other Town departments and stakeholders.


Qualifications

  • Strong communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Experience in law enforcement or bylaw enforcement is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions.
  • Knowledge of municipal bylaws or willingness to learn.
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
