Home Security: Alert and Summon

July 24, 2024

The last two, of the four core principles (deter, impede, alert and summon) are alert and summon.

Alerting and summoning can and should be coordinated. Here, I’ve provided some strategies to assist with your efforts to thwart break and enters.

It’s a good idea to connect with trustworthy neighbours. This is an important element in burglary prevention. Neighbours who know you and have your phone number are more likely to assist in calling you and the police when they see suspicious activity around your home. If you haven’t yet connected with one or more of your neighbours, get to know them, and if you plan on being away from your home for an extended period of time, consider advising a trusted neighbour who can keep an eye out for signs of unwanted trespassers. Being a proactive and observant neighbor can greatly assist in preventing crimes and ensuring community safety.

Next, we will conclude our series by discussing best practices for property retrieval and ensuring you are prepared in the unfortunate event of a theft. Stay tuned for our final installment on maximizing home security.
