Public Works Operator III: Temporary Employment Opportunity

The Town of Hanna is seeking a dedicated and adaptable Public Works Operator for a limited-term position. If you are motivated, experienced and capable of performing physical labor in a team-focused environment, we’d like to hear from you.


Position Overview
The Public Works Operator III plays a vital role in maintaining the Town of Hanna’s infrastructure. This position supports the upkeep of streets, roads, the municipal airport, water and wastewater systems, garbage collection, cemetery grounds, and municipal vehicles and equipment.
The Public Works department of the Town of Hanna is responsible for the maintenance of streets & roads, the airport, water lines & distribution, wastewater collection & treatment, garbage collection, the municipal cemetery, vehicles, and equipment.


Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Public Works, the operator will:
• Operate and service equipment: Safely operate and maintain a range of light and heavy-duty equipment, including backhoes, loaders, sweepers, and tandem-axle dump trucks.
• Utilize hand tools: Use manual and powered hand tools as needed for both skilled and non-skilled tasks.
• Assist with maintenance: Support the upkeep of roads, utilities, buildings, and equipment.
• Contribute to utility operations: Assist in operating water distribution, wastewater collection, and garbage systems, ensuring compliance with the License to Operate.
• Repair and maintain vehicles: Aid in the maintenance and repair of municipal vehicles and equipment.


Qualifications
• Alberta Class 3 Driver’s License (air brake endorsement is a strong asset).
• Equipment experience: Proficiency in operating a range of machinery.
• Communication skills: Strong oral and written communication abilities.
• Municipal knowledge: Understanding of municipal infrastructure and reporting is an asset.

Term and Application Details
This temporary position is based on a 40-hour work week and is expected to run until January 2025 with the possibility for extension.
