Skatepark Receives Refresh

June 29, 2024

Update to article July 2024

The Skateboard park project is complete and skateboarders have been spotted practising their Airwalk, Landing Bolts, Ollie, Tic Tac, Five-O and Tail Slide. Ya, we don’t understand what it means either but it looks like a lot of fun!

Hanna’s Skateboard Park was constructed in the early 2000’s. Local Youth requested equipment and the community jumped in with fundraising. The park has been well utilized for over 20 years and the equipment and surface have reached the end of their lifespan.

With this in mind, Council set aside funds in the budget to refresh the equipment. Canadian Ramp Company looked at designs appropriate for our space, budget, and variety of users. The goal is to maintain a park suitable for all ages and disciplines of riders, including bikes, skateboards, rollerblades and scooters. Six possible layouts were designed and presented at J.C. Charyk School to interested students. The students talked it up with their peers and provided feedback. A vote was held to determine the favorite elements which were combined into a final custom design for Hanna’s Skatepark.

This month, you will see the new design come to life. Old equipment will be removed from the space, a top layer of asphalt will be laid to smooth out the surface and new equipment will be installed. Please have patience as workers and equipment are in the area. This project will provide everyone with enjoyment this summer and for many years to come.
