Drive Happiness: 2023 Year in Review

January 9, 2024

In 2023, the Drive Happiness program in Hanna witnessed notable developments, showcasing both successes and challenges in providing essential transportation for seniors. The following are the statistics to date.

Number of:20232022
Registered drivers:53
Registered riders:3419
Rides completed:5018
Rides cancelled by rider:63
Rides not filled (no driver):2622

These figures illustrate the positive strides that have been made in delivering safe, reliable, and affordable transportation. However, there is still work to be done. The demand continues to grow with requests that go unmatched due to a shortage of available drivers. 26 ride requests went unfilled due to a lack of available drivers. Your commitment to becoming a Drive Happiness volunteer driver can make a significant impact on closing this gap and ensuring that every senior in need has access to the transportation they require. Please consider becoming a Drive Happiness volunteer driver. You will receive the following benefits.

  1. Flexibility – You choose when, where and how often so it fits into your schedule.
  2. Fuel – Drive Happiness will reimburse you for gas.
  3. Insurance – Drive Happiness protects you with liability coverage.
  4. Logistics – Drive Happiness looks after scheduling, fare collection and compensation so you can focus on driving.
  5. Perhaps most important is the opportunity to meet and assist friendly and appreciative seniors, making a positive impact on their ability to continue to age in place in Hanna.

If you’d like more information or might be a good fit, visit drivehappiness.ca/volunteering or call the Town Office. 403-854-4433.

If you are a rider, you must be pre-registered with the program first. Then, you must give a minimum of 3 business days notice to book driver. Michele Toews, Hanna’s Program Coordinator and local Drive Happiness contact emphasizes the importance of these requirements.

Remember, Town staff is ready to assist volunteers with the application process and answer any questions you may have. Feel free to contact Michele.
