Swim for Life® is a comprehensive swim instruction program that focuses on the acquisition and development of fundamental swim strokes and skills for learners of all ages and abilities. Swim for Life® is accessible, flexible, success-oriented and fun. Instructors ensure swimmers get lots of in-water practice in every lesson.
Financial assistance may be available through the Community Youth Fund or KidSport Hanna. Application forms can be found at hanna.ca/forms.
General Lessons
Lessons are dependent upon minimum registration so all sessions will not necessarily offer all levels. Private lessons may be available during the session dates. Payment methods available include cash, debit, cheque, e-transfer and credit (fees apply).

Junior Lifeguard Camp
This non-certificate program is new and fun! It’s another way for ages 8 to 12 to become more comfortable in the water while learning safety and lifeguarding skills at the same time! Watch for dates and times.

Canadian Swim Patrol
Looking for something to do after Swimmer 6 or something to prepare you for the Bronze Medals? This program is for you!
The Canadian Swim Patrol program provides enriched training for those who are ready to go beyond learn-to-swim. Swim Patrol has three levels: Rookie, Ranger, and Star. These programs continue to develop participants’ swim strokes and provide the skill foundation that prepares them for success in the Society’s Bronze Medal awards. Each level of the Canadian Swim Patrol program has three modules: Water Proficiency, First Aid, and Recognition and Rescue.

Registration for The Bronze ‘s
Bronze Star develops swimming proficiency, lifesaving skill, and personal fitness. Candidates refine their stroke mechanics, acquire self-rescue skills, and apply fitness principles in training workouts.
Bronze Star is excellent preparation for success in Bronze Medallion and provides a fun introduction to lifesaving sports. Bronze Star can be taken optionally to prepare candidates for Bronze Medallion.

Bronze Medallion challenges the candidate both mentally and physically. Judgment, knowledge, skill, and fitness – the four components of water rescue – form the basis of Bronze Medallion training. Candidates acquire the assessment and problem-solving skills needed to make good decisions in, on, and around the water.
Bronze Medallion is a prerequisite for assistant lifeguard training in Bronze Cross.

Bronze Cross begins the transition from lifesaving to lifeguarding and prepares candidates for responsibilities as an assistant lifeguard. Candidates strengthen and expand their lifesaving skills and begin to apply the principles and techniques of active surveillance in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross emphasized the importance of teamwork and communication in preventing and responding to aquatic emergencies.
Bronze Cross is a pre-requisite for advanced training in the Society’s National Lifeguard and leadership certification programs.

Intermediate First Aid
Standard First Aid provides comprehensive training covering all aspects of first aid and CPR. This course is for those who want an in-depth understanding of first aid such as: medical/legal aspects, spinal injuries, environmental injuries, bone and joint injuries, abdominal and chest injuries, burns, and medical emergencies. Includes CPR-C and AED certification.
This course is a prerequisite for Bronze Cross and National Lifeguard Pool.
National Lifeguard (Pool)
Recognized as the standard for lifeguards in Canada, National Lifeguard training develops a sound understanding of lifeguarding principles, good judgment, and a mature and responsible attitude toward the role of the lifeguard.
The primary role of the National Lifeguard is the prevention of emergency situations and the timely and effective resolution of emergencies. The National Lifeguard certification prepares lifeguards to fulfill this role as professional facilitators of safe, enjoyable aquatics.

Fitness Swimmer
The Fitness Swimmer Program is for swimmers of any age who want to improve their overall physical fitness in the water. Fitness Swimmer provides a structured approach to improve physical fitness based on accepted training principles and practices.
Adult Group Lessons
The Adult Swimmer Program is for beginners or swimmers who want to improve their skills. Within the Adult Swimmer curriculum, participants set their own goals to develop water confidence and recognizable strokes.
